Solardelphia proudly served as the primary installer for the Pennsylvania Clean Energy Communities Campaign. The Campaign—developed by SmartPower and TRF Sustainable Development Fund—provided townships and boroughs in the Philadelphia region with the opportunity to each win a 1 kWh solar photovoltaic system for the township hall, school, library, or other community building.
To earn these systems, the community had to first commit to purchasing 20% clean energy by 2010 through clean energy options like PECO Wind. Local volunteers then had to work with SmartPower, a Washington D.C.-based non-profit, to sign up a specific number of their residences and businesses for clean energy options to be designated a Clean Energy Community. The PV systems Solardelphia installed for these communities now generate clean, renewable energy and—from their highly visible locations—they work as “solar billboards,” displaying for everyone that solar is a real and reliable energy source for our communities.
